Our Instruction
The instruction provided by The True Corrective is grounded in two fundamental ideas:
-
The central function of any education system is to inculcate the particular set of values and principles upon which that society is built, so its people can thrive within it and advance it.
-
The best way we can serve our children is to teach them how to properly gather, discern, and interpret information. This prevents them from becoming dependent upon misinformed or dishonest people and prepares them for a full life in pursuit of the true, the good, and the beautiful.
Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr. while at Morehouse College, 1957
In order for a child to have a life full of the true, the good, and the beautiful that child must first be taught the skills to independently seek out and discover it. Their ability to gather and interpret evidence must be developed. They must practice discerning facts from lies. These are the skills necessary for us to be able to participate fully in The Great Conversation, and to lead a life of excellence and flourishing. All of our instruction is built to foster and develop these skills.
Education has forgotten America's core
There is a way
to revive our national character and soul
The True Corrective provides a superior education that deeply involves parents and is built upon critical examination of primary sources, questioning and discussion, and cultivation of the student’s ability for independent analysis and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
Teaching a child what is true, what is moral, and what is just is only half an education.
The other half is to show them how society arrived at those truths, so they may have the courage and ability to continue uncovering truth throughout their lives.
Without the ability to separate truth from intentionally deceptive information masquerading as facts, students are left vulnerable to any person in authority who seeks to assert influence over them. These may be members of the media, politicians, or even their teachers.
